12-28-19 College Basketball Games to Watch

Headliner Game

#3 Louisville at #19 Kentucky (-2) at 3:45 p.m. (CBS)

We get one ranked vs. ranked game today. Kentucky has dropped two in a row (Utah and Ohio State in Vegas), and really needs this win to raise their tournament profile. They need Tyrese Maxey to have another big game (like he did versus Michigan State to begin the year). Louisville had the one stumble against a then-struggling Texas Tech team that played without their star freshman. No one has emerged as a front-runner so far this year for the Player of the Year; if Jordan Nwora has a big game on a big stage in this one, he might become that guy. At the end of the day, I find it hard to believe UK will lose three in a row; I like them in a close one (plus they have kinda owned Louisville lately).

The Undefeated Watch

Cal Poly at #15 San Diego St. (-26) at 7 p.m. (MWN)

Only three undefeated teams remain; Liberty and Auburn play tomorrow. San Diego State is a huge favorite over a bad Cal Poly team. Still, Duke and UK have lost as huge favorites this year already, so you never know. I expect the Aztecs to stay unblemished but we’ll see.

Upset Watch Games

C. Michigan at Purdue (-19) at noon (BTN)

Texas Southern at Arizona St. (-17) at 3 p.m. (Pac-12N)

FIU at Minnesota (-14) at 4 p.m. (BTN)

Seattle at St. Mary’s (-19) at 8 p.m. (WCC Network)

Oral Roberts at BYU (-14) at 9 p.m. (BYU TV)

These five games could provide an upset. All of them are pretty significant double-digit dogs. FIU is the one I’d look out for the most; Minnesota is playing a lot better but it seems like the kind of game they have lost under Richard Pitino.

Other Games to Watch

American at Georgetown (-17 ½) at noon (FS1)

Wisconsin at Tennessee (-3 ½) at 1:30 p.m. (CBS)

Toledo at Bradley (PK) at 2 p.m. (ESPN+) $$

*College of Charleston (-3 ½) at Drexel (CAA) at 2 p.m. (FloHoops) $$

*Northeastern at Towson (-2 ½) (CAA) at 2 p.m. (FloHoops) $$

E. Michigan at UNLV (-5) at 3 p.m. (UNLVRebels.com/MWN)

*Hofstra (-2 ½) at James Madison (CAA) at 4 p.m. (FloHoops) $$

*N. Colorado (-1) at Portland St. (Big Sky) at 5:05 p.m. (Pluto TV)

*Sacramento St. at Montana St. (PK) (Big Sky) at 6 p.m. (Pluto TV)

Belmont at W. Kentucky (-2) at 7:30 p.m. (Stadium)

Pacific at UC Irvine (-6 ½) at 10 p.m. (BigWest.tv)

These 11 games have the potential to be very entertaining! American is a big underdog but at some point, Georgetown may come back to earth with limited scholarship players. Belmont-WKU is a very good game between quality mid-majors. The CAA and Big Sky get conference play rolling before the New Year and offer some good contests today. Wisky-Tennessee should be a decent game between two teams that are struggling a bit. Enjoy!
